Where Is The Cam Position Sensor
i have a 99 f250 7.3 powerstroke. the cam sensor was acting up. that what the scan tool said. i replaced the cam position sensor yesterday, and the truck is still acting up. the motor hitches and will shut off randomly. it tripped the check engine light, and the code is the "cam position sensor" once the truck is warmed up and shut down for like 10 minutes the sensor will not act up anymore. if i just start the truck and run it, even once it is up to tempature it will act up. but if i shut the truck down for about 10 minutes, it goes away. is there something else that could be causing this? thank youYou don't need to disconnect the batteries. If the CPS is good then the PCM will see the tach signal and everything will be fine.
If you want to put vaseline or di-electric grease on something, it goes on the rubber gasket at the plug connector. This helps provide a better seal that will keep moisture out of the electrical connection.

And as Ken originally said. Too many problems with the aftermarket CPS from places like NAPA etc. Stop by Ford and you should be able to pick one up for around $25.Yeah after we sold a half-a-million of 'em now they come out with a recall...........
We use to sell them over the counter for $190............
Where Is The Cam Position Sensor
NOW they retail for $27could tell there was a recall coming when they reduce that drastically
It affects all 7.3 engines from 1997-2003
Where Is The Cam Position Sensor
Now the recall specifys Ford Super Duty, Excursion & E-series but should also include F250 & F350(97 &98)
They're not even mailing customer letters until next week but go to the dealer now and they'll do it......as long as your vehicle shows up on OASIS
